Design Wall Monday

Yesterday, I was able to die cut 20 light lavender tumblers that were needed for one more Tumbler Quilt.  Several months ago, I had purchased (4) purple/lavender fleece backs for these quilts that I chose to make.
Here is the lay-out for the final quilt top.  I still have more pre-cut tumblers, which hopefully I can use to create a scrappy quilt down the road.

I spent many hours last week, trying to make friends with my EQ7 Quilt program.  My friend, Denni wrote step by step instructions which led me to the section where I could find the Tumbler pattern, which helped me on my way.  Then my husband helped me scan (7) fabrics into the computer for using in my tumbler quilt but the scanned fabrics did not want to move from the fabric section to my tumbler quilt layout.  Frustration was setting in.... We (the computer and I) are barely on speaking terms at the moment. I see so many beautiful quilts that have been designed with this program but my patience level.....Enough said.

Here is what I designed on my design wall, the old fashioned way......

Tumbler Quilt 08312015
Even after making all these tumbler quilts, I still have tumblers left over.  What I have left over needs to be put together into a kit for a scrappy quilt.  I'm now ready to move on to another pattern.

  1. I have not ventured into EQ yet and am so hesitant to do so. I don't need any more technological frustration in my life! Your tumbler to is going to be wonderful!

    1. Your "Empty Nest Syndrome" quilt brought back memories. I too made one of those little quilts and would hang it in my office at the beginning of every semester, where I worked at the local university The parents loved seeing it.
I have enjoyed making these tumbler quilts. The pieces are larger and it is easy to sew them together in rows. I would do much better with EQ if I didn't expect instant results. It does help to have a friend email step by step instructions. I'm always in a hurry to finish projects, which is what creates my frustration.

  2. Beautiful tumbler quilt. Love those purples.

EQ is not for the faint of heart. But once you figure out how to get everything where it needs to be to work with, it is definitely worth while.

    1. Thank you for your words of encouragement about EQ. I need to set aside a few hours a day to work through some processes. I have found several intriguing patterns that I'd love to try.
Congratulations on finishing your Grand Illusion with just the binding to go. Mine is hiding in a project box somewhere in my sewing room. This was my first Bonnie Hunter Mystery. The next Mystery will be upon us soon.

  3. I have better luck using photos of my fabrics (cropped, if necessary) than scans because scans show too much moire effect from the weave. Save the fabric photo as a jpg to your desktop. To use it, click on Libraries/Fabric. Then down at the bottom of the window that pops up, click on Import, then on From Image Files. Then select Desktop (or wherever you saved your jpg) and click on the file you want to use.

  4. Thank you for your instructions regarding the Fabric Scans. I gave it a quick try just now and I was able to import some of the fabrics into a hexagon quilt. Obviously, I need to work on it some more. However, I made better progress than I had just a few days ago.
