Quilts of Valor

Tomorrow is my monthly Quilt Guild Meeting and I am finally getting some items that have been lingering in my Sewing Room for months.

I have (3) Quilts of Valor in different stages of completion.  Andrew Lee, is a retired soldier who proposes quilting as a way to reduce stress.  Andrew began making Quilts of Valor for soldiers touched by war.  Andrew, who has a passion for Quilts of Valor is willing to take fabric, blocks, partially completed quilts and completed Quilts of Valor.  Andrew has many helpers, who help him complete the quilts, which he awards to those Service men and women, who have been touched by war.

It will be a blessing for me, to be able to give these Quilts of Valor to Andrew.

Notions Sale last Saturday, June 29th

Weekly Sewing Group hosted a Notions Sale--

Our Sewing Group received a massive donation of Sewing notions, which we chose to sell at a local space in our area of middle TN.
We set up the sale items on Friday, the 28th of June and had our actual sale on Saturday, the 29th.  All items were priced well below market value.  Friday was rather slow but Saturday made up for it.  We had a good crowd of buyers and made a nice profit.  The funds received will help fund our future sewing projects for those in need in our community.

Fidget Mats-Most of the items I chose, will be used for Fidget Mats.  I found that I truly enjoy making these projects.  We use place-mats as our base and then add little scraps of fabric of different textures and other details that someone in a Nursing Home may enjoy feeling.  Everything must be attached extremely well, since you can never be sure if someone may try to put it in their mouth.  Anyone that has lots of little fabric scraps can create a unique Fidget Mat.

I will try to get some pictures posted later today.

Project Linus Work-Day

Today, our Tuesday Sewing Group attended a work-day for Project Linus Blankets (aka small quilts that are tied by hand or machine).  We normally meet twice per year to work on these quilts.  Our leaders plan ahead and many workers in our group create the small to medium tops with batting and a back (most of the fabric is "kid friendly").  Today about 20 ladies came to work.  As always, I didn't finish the few tops & backs that I chose to work on this afternoon, so I brought them home for finishing and will take them back on Tuesday.

I'm hoping to finish up the remaining (4) house blocks that I began "a long time ago", so that I can finally complete this major project that I started for myself.

All for now.......

Lake Blocks are complete

In the process of learning how to use my new Windows 10 computer, I finally figured out how to post these (4) lake blocks.  Thankfully, these blocks are almost the same size.  The house blocks are another issue and I still have 4 more house blocks to make.  I am quite happy with how the lakes turned out and I finally figured out how to post them here and on-line through the website where I purchased the Lake fabric from Gardensong Fabrics at:
gardensongfabrics.etsy.com   Under their website, this fabric is called:
Landscape Medley - Lake Water 528-LAK by Elizabeth's Studio Cotton Quilting Fabric Yardage.  Rebecca Nations is located in Brookhaven, MS

Pictures of more houses

My computer was quite old (over 10 years old), so everything I want to do is more difficult than I remember. Yesterday, we went and purchased Windows 10 with a beautiful new monitor.  As I was about to put my camera disk in the computer, I realized I wasn't sure which slot to use.  So, I must wait until my husband is free to show me.  I don't need to mess it up, before I even begin.  The pictures I plan to post will be of the "House Blocks" that I have been working on since January 2019.  I have (4) more house blocks to create before I can start sewing the blocks together with sashings and then borders.

March 1st, 2019

Any Blog followers that I had, have probably lost interest or moved on to more interesting sites.  I haven't blogged in several months.  I still go to my weekly Sewing Group and enjoy making small quilts for Project Linus or other groups.

I have begun a new quilt project for myself.  A quilt which will represent each house I have lived in through-out my life.  Just (4) more blocks to finish.  The corner blocks represent each lake where our families went on vacation through the years.  This is the most intriguing quilt that I have ever made and I have truly enjoyed the process.

Pictures will be posted later.......

New Quilt Project begins-

Since I have a couple of weeks off from any activities, I decided to use my time to make a "House Quilt".  Each house will represent a house, dorm, apt. or duplex where I have lived.  I even plan to make a block with a camping tent for when we took a family vacation at a lake in Northern California for 3 weeks.  The most difficult so far, is to find photos of each place to use as my design.  I found that I am making Swiss cheese out of many of my fabrics that have scenery, fences, barns, houses, or landscapes.  When I'm done, probably the only ones who will recognize these houses will be friends who I grew up with through the years.  I do enjoy making quilts that document a particular event or time in my family's history.    Here is Block #1--the house where I grew up....

Next up is -- The Residence Hall at Humboldt State College in the Redwoods

Shown below is Block #2--my interpretation in fabric of the Residence Hall at Humboldt

Next up will be Block #3--my 1st Apartment that I shared with a friend from Jr. High
We lived there for 3 months during the summer of 1974--It had a nice pool, which we enjoyed.
We called the Apt. Building--"The Pink Apartments" since they were painted pink.
Debbie did her Nurses Training at a local hospital and
I commuted to another town to work in a Dental Office.
