National Sew Day 2016

MTSU Learning
Resource Center
On Saturday, the 6th, I had the opportunity and privilege to be part of the Quilts of Valor National Sew Day.
The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.
Middle Tennessee State University provided the space
for 26 sewers and over 7 student assistants.
It was a joint effort between the President of MTSU,
Dr. McPhee, Lt.Gen. Keith Huber and
Ginger Fondren, Asst. Executive at Quilts of Valor Foundation.
Lt. General Huber was instrumental in the creation of MTSU's Military and Veterans Family Center, which
formally opened in November 2015. It is the largest and most comprehensive veterans facility at a public or private university in Tennessee.
All the red, white, and blue fabric was provided, along with instructions. The quilt pattern is Friendship Star. Each sewer was given a packet of (38) 10" squares.
(8) blue ones for the center of the stars and
(15) blue ones for the star blocks and
(15) beige ones for the star blocks.
I plan to have my top complete by Wednesday, so I can turn it in to Ginger Fondren on Friday, the 12th, when I see her at the TVQA Quarterly Board meeting in LaVergne, TN.
Here's what I have so far......

What a great cause, and your blocks are looking fantastic so far.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. The quilt turned out looking good. There were 5 ladies at my Quilt Guild who finished their tops also and those quilts look wonderful.
